New Leadership Elected for Munshiganj Sadar Migrant Forum

Munshiganj, 17 August 2025: The Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Migrant Forum Election 2025 concluded successfully in a peaceful and festive environment, with high voter turnout and enthusiastic participation.

The newly elected Upazila Committee consists of nine members:

  • President: Rashida Akter
  • Vice President: Asma Akter
  • General Secretary: Shaheen Sheikh
  • Joint General Secretary: Sojal Ahmed
  • Organizing Secretary: Taslima Akter
  • Treasurer: Roksana Begum
  • Office Secretary: Mir Osiuddin Badsha
  • Publicity Secretary: Mukti Begum
  • Executive Member: Momtaz Begum

The voting took place on Sunday, 17 August, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the OKUP District Office in Doshkani, Panchasar Union, Sadar Upazila. Of the 83 registered voters, 81 cast their votes, resulting in a remarkable 99% turnout. Vote counting was completed by 2:00 PM, after which the winners were officially announced.

The election, organized by OKUP, a non-governmental organization working for the rights, protection, and empowerment of migrant workers, resulted in the formation of a 9-member committee. While seven candidates competed for three positions, six other positions were filled unopposed. The committee will serve a two-year term.

The election process was overseen by a five-member committee led by OKUP Program Coordinator Abdullah Al Mamun, with field officer Eugene Mrong also in attendance. The event was smoothly managed by Minar Hossain, Ruma Begum, Mokseda Begum, Akhi Akter, Rina Begum, and Amena Akter.

Following her election, President Rashida Akter said:
“I will honor the trust of those who voted for me. The true joy lies in working for migrant families, supporting them, and standing by them. Being elected is not the goal—the real achievement is what we can accomplish together as a forum.”

General Secretary Shaheen Sheikh added:
“We will guide migrant workers from Munshiganj before they go abroad, provide necessary training and skills, and support them if they face challenges while overseas. Those returning after difficulties can rely on us for assistance.”

The Migrant Forum’s key activities include providing support to migrant workers, ensuring proper preparation before going abroad, resolving issues during overseas employment, and assisting with reintegration upon return.
